With attractions ranging from archeological treasures to world-class fine dining, Saudi is currently undergoing a cultural transformation of epic proportions and is well on the way to establishing itself as a forward-thinking, modern travel destination. Authentically Arabian adventure, culture and heritage underpinned by remarkable hospitality — it’s all happening in Saudi. Read on to discover a handful of this historic land’s many unique experiences.

Regal Riyadh

As the capital of Saudi, Riyadh is one of the nation’s most important and popular cities — home to world-class shopping, historical museums, an innovative food scene and desert adventures. Wherever you end up in the city, the views are spectacular thanks to a sweeping urban landscape backdropped by the sprawling Saudi desert. It’s a vibrant city you’ll want to visit again and again.

Any cultural tour here would start in Riyadh’s old quarter, where you’ll find the 150-year-old Al Masmak Fortress and its famed citadel made from clay and mud. A few blocks away is the historic Souk Al Zal, the ideal place to stroll down numerous alleyways and cheerfully haggle over jewelry, spices, handicrafts, and souvenirs, just like locals have since 1901. Next, venture to the Saudi National Museum, the country’s largest, where eight massive exhibit halls give you plenty of space to explore and soak in the culture of Saudi.

Outdoor enthusiasts cannot visit Saudi without an adventure in the desert. We recommend heading out on an evening desert safari. After you try sandboarding for the first time, you can relax with a traditional dinner and stargaze in a complete, rapturous wander up into the clear desert skies. Another choice for nature lovers is the famous mountains of Jebel Fihrayn, found a short distance from the city. Better known as The Edge of the World, hikers here are rewarded with jaw-dropping, uninterrupted views of the surrounding plains from atop its 300-meter-high cliff.

Genuine Jeddah

Perched on the shores of the Red Sea, Jeddah originally made its name as the gateway to Mecca due to its proximity to the holy city. But now, the port city is rapidly growing as a top-tier tourist destination filled with exceptional hotels, restaurants, beaches, museums and souks. Just look at its historic Old Town area — a UNESCO World Heritage Site that charmingly showcases a history that dates to 552 B.C. — and you will fall in love with this city by the sea.

Water sports, especially diving, are very popular here as a coastal destination. You can’t visit Jeddah without a trip out on the water, and happily, there are loads of options at the Red Sea City, including yacht charters and sunset cruises. Underwater, though, is where the real magic happens, for this is one of the best places in the world to dive or snorkel thanks to stunning coral reefs to explore, shipwrecks to discover, and sea life to get up close and personal with.

If getting in the water is not your idea of fun, strolling along Jeddah Waterfront Park is a brilliant way to appreciate the city and its coastline. Walk along it far enough, and you’ll see a floating mosque — the stunning Al Rahma Mosque has been built overtop the Red Sea, giving the impression it is hovering serenely above. This impressive sight becomes even more spectacular at night as light streams through the structure’s intricate stained-glass windows.
